Baptista and Scott Named American Conference XC Athletes of the Week

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa seniors Marc Scott and Rachel Baptista were named the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Male and Female Athletes of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
 
Both runners led the Golden Hurricane in their respective races at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last week. Scott won the men's 8K race with a time of 23:35.0, and Baptista placed 21st in the women's 6K race with a time of 20:09.6.
 
Scott, a native of North Yorkshire, England, was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week on Monday. He placed first out of 244 runners, and led Tulsa to an eighth-place team finish, defeating 14 higher-ranked opponents. Of the 36 competing men's teams, 28 were ranked either in the top-30 of the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll or receiving national votes.
 
Baptista, a native of Austin, Texas, finished 21st out of 246 runners to pace the Hurricane. She led Tulsa to a 28th-place finish at the meet. Of the 36 competing women's teams, 25 were ranked either in the top-30 of the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll or receiving national votes.
 
The Golden Hurricane will look to defend its conference crowns on Oct. 31 at the American Athletic Conference Championships in Greenville, N.C. Both the TU men's and women's teams won the conference championship last season, and Scott is the reigning individual league champion.
