Greenville, N.C. —
The University of Tulsa volleyball team picked up an American Athletic Conference road win as they swept East Carolina, 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-12), Friday night at the Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

Junior outside hitter Erica Bohannon tallied 17 kills, while senior middle blocker Ashley Hooper picked up 11 kills on just 16 attempts hitting an explosive .625 percentage for the Golden Hurricane (11-13, 6-6). Junior outside hitter Rebecca Reeve and junior libero Brooke Berryhill registered 15 and 12 digs, respectively. TU compiled a .222 hitting percentage, with 41 kills and 15 errors on 117 attempts, while the Pirates were limited to a .137 attacking percentage (30-14-117) as they fell to 10-12 overall and 3-8 in the conference.

"It's always great to go on the road and get a sweep," Head Coach Ryan Wills said. "I think going on the road and getting a sweep shows the character of our team, and the development of our players this season. I think Brooke and Erica did a great job for us in regards to digs and kills. Brooke has a lot of digs for us at that position, and she is the backbone of our defense and she has been getting better every week. I am really happy with her growth. She finds a way to make plays for other people and she takes up a lot of space on the floor, and she just helps everyone do their jobs a little better."

In the initial frame, Tulsa had a .333 attacking percentage on 17 kills, while ECU hit .162 with 10 kills. The contest was a stalemate at the midway point of the set with the score tied at 13-13. The Hurricane scored four unanswered points taking a 17-13 lead, and it maintained that lead late in the set with the score at 21-17. TU went on to score four of the last six points to end the set 25-19 giving the Hurricane a 1-0 match lead. Bohannon and Hooper collected seven and five kills in the set, respectively.

In the second set, the Hurricane hit .170 on 13 kills, while the Pirates were limited to a .154 hitting percentage with 16 kills. The stanza was a deadlock at the midway point with the score tied at 12-12. Both teams battled late in the set with tying scores at 20-20, 23-23, and 24-24, before an ECU blocking error and a crushing kill from Bohannon ended the set 26-24 giving the Hurricane a 2-0 match lead going into intermission. Bohannon tallied six more kills in the set, while Berryhill picked up seven digs.

In the final stanza, TU hit .161 on 11 kills, holding ECU to a .071 hitting percentage with four kills. Tulsa dominated the frame early with the score at 10-5 and 13-6, before extending the lead to 12 points at 22-10. The Hurricane went on to score three out of the last five points to end the set at 25-12. Bohannon picked up four more kills, while Reeve tallied four kills and six digs in the frame.

Berryhill's 12 digs tonight put her at 1,597 career digs, which was enough to pass Evyn Wills (2002-05) for the number two spot in TU's career digs list. The talented libero is 840 digs away from matching Jessica Adams (2009-12).

Tulsa will be on the road next weekend taking on Cincinnati, Nov. 6, at 7:00 p.m. and then traveling to face Memphis, Nov. 8, at 1:00 p.m.
