Tulsa Women’s Basketball Season is Underway with First Practice Today

The Tulsa women's basketball team kicked off the 2015-16 campaign with the first practice of the season today at the Donald W. Reynolds Center under the direction of fifth-year head coach Matilda Mossman.

The Golden Hurricane returns eight letterwinners, including three starters, and one squad member, and welcomes five newcomers this year. The roster features three seniors – Ashley Clark, Kelsee Grovey and Antoinet Webster; four juniors – Ashley Hughes, Jessica Pongonis, Teanna Reid and Te'era Williams; three sophomores – Jordyn Holmes, Liesl Spoerl and Erika Wakefield; and four freshmen – Jasmine Butler, Tatyana Perez, Crystal Polk and Tyjae' Scales.

TU will play a 29-game regular season schedule, which features NCAA Champion UConn in a home-and-home series, as well as instate foes Oklahoma and Oral Roberts, and Kansas State. Tulsa will face 12 teams that played in the postseason last year, including NCAA teams Arkansas, Oklahoma, UALR, UConn, USF and Tulane; WNIT teams Drake, East Carolina, Kansas State, Northern Iowa and Temple, and WBI participant Oral Roberts.

Tulsa will play two exhibition contests, including Rogers State (Oct. 30) and Southeastern State (Nov. 6) before opening up the season at home against Kansas State (Nov. 13).
