Julie Kernen Earns Commissioner's Postgraduate Leadership Award

TULSA, Okla. – Former University of Tulsa softball player Julie Kernen earned an American Athletic Conference Commissioner's Postgraduate Leadership Award, the league announced today.
 
Kernen, a native of St. Louis, Mo., graduated from Tulsa last spring with a 3.97 grade-point average in speech language pathology, and is pursuing a master's degree in speech pathology from the university. She was a Capital One Second-Team Academic All-American, American Athletic Conference First Team and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mideast Region selection last spring.
 
Kernen was a member of the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society at Tulsa and was a seven-time selection to the President's Honor Roll, maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average in seven semesters. She volunteered with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and was secretary of Tulsa's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
 
In 2015, Kernen set a school record with 59 RBI, and led the Golden Hurricane with 27 extra base hits, including 12 home runs and 15 doubles. She hit .331 with a team-high .639 slugging percentage, and added 39 runs, 22 walks and a .421 on-base percentage. Kernen finished her career ranking among the top-10 in 11 career categories at Tulsa, and was just the third TU player to record 25 home runs, 40 doubles and 145 RBI in her career.
