TULSA, Okla. — Junior outside hitter Erica Bohannon recorded 16 kills for The University of Tulsa volleyball team, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane fell to Houston, 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-15), Friday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Tulsa (12-15, 7-8 American) hit a .139 percentage, with 34 kills and 17 errors on 122 attempts, while the Cougars had a .254 attacking percentage (44-13-122) as they improved to 17-10 overall and 7-8 in the conference.

In the initial frame, Tulsa registered a .205 hitting percentage on 14 kills, while Houston had a .267 hitting percentage with 17 kills. The contest was a stalemate early in the set with tying scores at 10-10, 13-13, and 15-15, before Houston took a two point lead at 17-15 forcing a Tulsa timeout. The Hurricane battled back to scoring five out of six points coming out of the timeout to take a 20-18 lead forcing a Houston timeout. The score was tied late in the set at 20-20, 23-23, and 24-24 before Houston scored back-to-back points to win the set 26-24 taking a 1-0 match lead.

In the second stanza, both teams battled closely as the score tied at the midway point 15-15. Tulsa took a three point lead at 19-16 forcing a Houston timeout, before the Cougars fought back to tie the score at 21-21. The score was tied one more time at 23-23, before Houston scored back-to-back points again to win the set 25-23 taking a 2-0 match lead going into intermission.

In the third set, Houston took an early 5-1 forcing Tulsa to call a timeout. The Hurricane trailed at the midway point 14-8, and the Cougars maintain that lead late with the score at 18-12. Houston went on to score seven of the final ten points to win the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.

The Hurricane returns to the Donald W. Reynolds Center to take on Tulane at 1:30 p.m., Nov. 15.
