Tulsa Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams Make NCAA Championships Field

The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams have each been picked as at-large selections to the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, it was announced today by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Committee.

It's the first time in school history that both the men and women have qualified in the same year. The Tulsa men are making their seventh appearance and fifth-straight showing at the NCAA Championships. The previous appearances have come in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. The Golden Hurricane women will be making the school's second NCAA Championships appearance, as the women's first NCAA appearance came in 2010.

The NCAA Championships take placed next Saturday, November at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville Kentucky. The women's race will begin at noon Eastern Time, followed by the men's race at approximately 1 p.m. Eastern Time.

On Saturday, both the Hurricane men and women finished in fourth place at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship in Lawrence, Kansas at Rim Rock Farm. Senior Marc Scott won the men's individual title, as the Tulsa men finished with 127 points behind Oklahoma (104), Minnesota (95) and Oklahoma State (59).

The Tulsa women placed fourth with 151 points, while senior Rachel Baptista finished in fifth place individually. The Hurricane finished behind Minnesota (125), Iowa State (98) and Oklahoma State (51). The fourth-place finish tied a program-best for the women's team, matching the 2014 result.

Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.
