Erika Wakefield scored a career-best 21 points, but the Tulsa women's basketball team dropped an 82-73 decision to Saint Louis on Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo.  TU fell to 0-2 on the season, while SLU moved to 2-0 overall.

"We just lost focus defensively," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "Obviously we didn't defend their post players well.  Hats off to Saint Louis - they were patient, they played together, played hard and hit big shots.  We found a way to take away their inside game, but then they go outside and hit three's.  Overall, I didn't think it was our best effort.  Even when we got the lead, it didn't seem to fire us up, we just continued to play with them.  They took advantage of our weakness inside, and we couldn't find a way to stop them."

"Erika Wakefield carries our team for the second-straight night.  She isn't known as a scoring point guard, but she's been the only answer for us this season."

Antoinet Webster added 14 points, while Ashley Clark scored 13 points and had a team-best eight rebounds.  Wakefield also recorded a team-leading five assists in the contest.

Tulsa had a 34-29 lead in rebounds and a 5-3 advantage in steals, while SLU had a 25-10 lead in assists.

Tulsa finished with 50.8-percent from the field, just ahead of SLU's 50.0-percent from the field, and shot 37.5-percent from three-point range compared to SLU's 33.3.  TU went 7-of-14 from the free throw line and the Billikens hit 17-of-22 attempts.

The Golden Hurricane scored 38 points in the paint, 22 points off the bench and 16 second-chance points, and SLU scored 40 points in the paint and 16 points off turnovers.

Tulsa jumped out to a nine-point lead, 11-2, with 7:15 on the clock, but SLU fought back to take a 14-13 advantage at the 3:37 mark.  TU then went on a 7-0 run, and closed out the first quarter with a 23-18 lead.

Five quick points and the Billikens tied it up with 9:08 on the clock in the second frame, but TU held the lead for the majority of the second-quarter and took a 37-34 advantage into the break.

Tulsa shot 57-percent from the field, including 62-percent from behind the arc, and had no attempts from the free throw line, while SLU shot 51-percent from the field, but were just 25-percent from three-point range, and were 1-of-2 from the charity stripe in the first half.

In the first half, Tulsa led for 17:53 off the clock.  Wakefield scored a team-best 13-points in the first half, Kelsee Grovey added eight and Clark pulled down four rebounds.

SLU outscored Tulsa, 27-16, in the third frame, and took a 62-53 lead at the break.  TU shot just 33-percent, including 16-percent from three-point range, and was also called for nine fouls in the third-quarter, which sent the Billikens to the line 12 times for nine free points.

TU cut the deficit to three, 66-63, with 5:37 on the clock in the final quarter, but were outscored 16-10 in the final stretch.  Both teams scored 20-points in the final frame, but the Hurricane was unable to overcome the third-quarter deficit.

SLU's Denisha Womack and Sadie Stipanovich both had 16 points, Jamesia Price tallied 14 and Jackie Kemph added 13 points.  Womack pulled down six rebounds and Kemph had 14 assists.

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, November 20 against crosstown rival Oral Roberts.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on the TU campus.
