ST. THOMAS, USVI – The Tulsa men's basketball team plays South Carolina tonight in the finals of the 2015 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam 8 p.m. CST/10 p.m. AST at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center.
The Golden Hurricane (4-0) defeated Ohio, 90-88, on Friday and Indiana State, 67-59, on Sunday. The Gamecocks (4-0) defeated DePaul, 76-61, on Friday and Hofstra, 94-84, on Sunday to arrive at the championship game.
The game will be broadcast on Big Country 99.5 FM and the Golden Hurricane Radio Network, and televised on CBS Sports Network.
The Series
This is the first meeting between Tulsa and South Carolina.
Quick Hits
• Tulsa is 4-0 to start a season for the first time since 2009-10.
• In its last game, Tulsa defeated Indiana State, 67-59, on Sunday. Shaquille Harrison scored 24 points, and James Woodard recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Pat Birt tallied 10 points and six rebounds, Rashad Smith picked up 10 rebounds, and Marquel Curtis added five assists, five rebounds and two steals.
• Harrison has totaled 97 points in the first four games of this season. He is the first TU player to score that many points in the four opening games of a season since Willie Biles (1971-74) scored 123 points in the first four contests of the 1972-73 season. He has tallied at least 20 points in each game this year.
• Harrison was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 23. TU has nabbed the first two conference weekly honors of the season. Woodard won the award on Nov. 16.
• Woodard ranks 11th in TU career scoring with 1,471 points, and sixth with 193 career 3-pointers. He needs one point to match Biles for 10th place.
• Harrison ranks fourth at TU with 194 career steals, and sixth with 338 career assists. He needs one assist to match Lou Dawkins (1989-94) for fifth place.
• Brandon Swannegan has 124 career blocks, ranking fifth in TU career history.
• Tulsa is playing this season with nine seniors – the most seniors on one roster in the country.
• The Hurricane returned 97 percent of its scoring and 98 percent of its minutes to the team in 2015-16 – one of only five schools in the country to return at least 90 percent of its scoring and minutes this year.
• The Golden Hurricane is in its second season as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
• Tulsa is in its second year season under the direction of head coach Frank Haith. In his first season, the Hurricane posted a 23-11 overall record and a 14-4 conference record. TU finished second in the American Athletic Conference regular season, played in the semifinals of the conference tournament, and reached the second round of the postseason NIT.
