Six Tulsa players scored in double figures, including a team-best 22 points by Ashley Clark, but it wasn't enough as TU dropped a 91-80 decision to Drake on Saturday afternoon in the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nev.  TU fell to 1-4 on the season, while the Bulldogs moved to 5-0 overall.

"You look at our part of the stat sheet and it looks great," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We had six people in double figures, scored 80 points and shot a descent percentage.  I am proud of their effort because we knew Drake would be tough.  I am disappointed with the outcome, but not upset with our kids because they played hard."

Crystal Polk added 13 points, while Erika Wakefield had her first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.  Kelsee Grovey had 11 points, and both Teanna Reid and Antoinet Webster had 10 points.  Reid returned for her first game after missing the start of the season due to injury.

Tulsa shot 40-percent from the field, 26-percent from three-point range and 65-percent from the charity stripe, while Drake finished with 42-percent from the field, 31-percent from behind the arc and 88-percent from the free throw line.

The Hurricane had 38 points in the paint, 20 points off the bench and 17 second-chance points, compared to the Bulldogs' 36 points in the paint, 31 points off the bench and 19 second-chance points.

Drake had a 53-41 lead in rebounds, a 6-2 advantage in blocks and a 21-14 lead in assists, while Tulsa had a 9-6 advantage in steals and only turned the ball over nine times compared to the Bulldogs' 11.

There were five lead changes and three tied scores in the first 3:26 of the game, including a 10-all score at the 6:34 mark, but the Bulldogs closed out the quarter with a 21-5 run for a 31-16 advantage at the first break.

"I thought we just got off to a slow start," Mossman said.  "We didn't battle well, giving up 31 points in the first quarter, but we came back in the second.  We guarded and we had really good looking shots, but in the fourth quarter they just wouldn't go down."

In the second frame, the Golden Hurricane battled back to pull within four points, 42-38, with 34-seconds on the clock, but a basket by Lizzy Wendell with three seconds on the clock gave Drake a 44-38 advantage at the half.

Tulsa shot 42-percent from the field, including just 28-percent from three-point range, and were 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, while the Bulldogs shot 47-percent from the field, 33-percent from behind the arc and hit 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the first half.

Clark had 13 points in the first half, while Reid added seven and Polk six.  Wakefield had six boards.

Tulsa scored the first six points in the third quarter to tie the game at 44-all and continued to climb to a 54-48 advantage at the 5:08 mark, but the Bulldogs fought back to tie the game at 54-all with 3:29 on the clock in the third period.  Drake held on to the lead for the remainder of the third quarter with a 60-59 score at the break.

TU took back the lead at 9:32 in the fourth quarter, 62-61, and tied the score at 72-72 with 6:26 on the clock, but Drake outscored the Hurricane 19-12 to close out the contest.

Tulsa will take on George Mason in the Lady Rebel Round-Up consolation game beginning at 2:00 pm Central tomorrow.
