Tulsa’s Garrett Stafford and Derrick Luetjen Earn Academic All-District Honors

The University of Tulsa seniors Garrett Stafford and Derrick Luetjen were named today to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). They will each now be eligible for Academic All-America honors.
 
Stafford, an offensive lineman from Tulsa's Memorial High School, has been named to the all-district team for the second consecutive season. While working on his master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Stafford has maintained a 3.50 grade point average. He completed his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering in 3.5 years with a 3.7 GPA.
 
A defensive tackle, Luetjen has maintained a 3.62 GPA in Exercise & Sports Science in his fifth year at Tulsa. He earned President's List (4.0 GPA) recognition twice and has been named three times to each of the Dean's List (3.5-3.99 GPA) and Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA)
 
The 6'5", 300-pounder, Stafford made the switch from tackle to guard in the preseason and has started 34 straight games on the Hurricane offensive front. Named to the 2015 preseason watch lists for the Lombardi and Outland Trophies, Stafford has had seven semesters where he was named to the Dean's List (3.5-3.99 GPA) and this past summer was recognized as the 2015 National Football Foundation (NFF) Oklahoma Chapter Scholar Athlete of the Year.
 
Luetjen (6'3", 291), from Hennessey, Oklahoma, anchors the defensive interior for the Hurricane. He has started 32 consecutive games and has compiled 136 career tackles, including 24 TFLs for -88 yards. This season, Luetjen has been credited with 30 tackles and 8.5 TFLs for -20 yards.
 
Stafford and Luetjen advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. District 7 includes the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
