Tulsa Rowers Post Top Marks in All Four Races in First Day of Tulsa Fall Invitational
11/6/2015 6:36:00 PM | Rowing
The Tulsa rowers posted top marks in all four races they competed in at the Tulsa Fall Invitational on Friday afternoon on the Verdigris River in Catoosa, Okla. Kansas, SMU and Tulsa will continue the regatta as they compete in the Novice 4+ and Varsity 8+ races on Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 am.
"The big goal for Tulsa on the day was to be consistent among our racing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We've been working really hard this fall and the student–athletes wanted to show each other they could do well. KU and SMU were both moving really well and I was pleased that we could be consistent and stay ahead of them. The race of the day was the Singles race where we had two women finish six-tenths of a second apart to take first and second – hats of to them. Our Lightweights also did a great job as they won the Quad race, it was a really well done piece."
Marcia Vidaurri, Lauren Vander Hoeven, Hannah Vissers, Emily Farrar and Jennifer Casson raced the Varsity 4+ 'A' to a top time of 19:17.7, more than 31 seconds faster than TU's 'B' boat that finished second. The Hurricane 'C' boat was seventh, the 'D' boat finished eighth and the Golden Hurricane 'E' boat was 10th.
In the Varsity 4x, Emalia Seto, Marissa Catalanotto, Julia Herrell and Audrey Brown turned in a top time of 19:12.4, while TU's 'B' boat was fourth.
Vissers and Casson raced Tulsa's 'A' Double to a time of 19:46.8, Vander Hoeven and Colleen Giesbrecht finished second with a time of 20:28.2, and Janelle Payne and Maria Gearing captured third place in a time of 20:43.8. TU raced five other Doubles in the regatta.
Phoebe Mulligan captured a top mark in the Single as she turned in a time of 22:01.1. Emily Farrar finished second with a time of 22:01.7 and Sam Tober was fourth with a time of 22:19.6.
