STILLWATER, Okla. Marquel Curtis scored all 10 of his points in the second half, and James Woodard and Shaquille Harrison scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Tulsa basketball team to a 66-56 win over Oklahoma State Wednesday evening at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
 
The Golden Hurricane (5-2) outscored the Cowboys 17-7 over the final five minutes to pick up its first win against OSU in Stillwater since 1985. Curtis, who scored six points down the final stretch, and Rashad Smith led TU with seven rebounds apiece. Jawun Evans scored 11 points to lead the Cowboys (5-2).
 
The Hurricane shot 54 percent (13-24), and converted 12-of-15 free throws in the second half, and shot 40 percent from the field in the game (20-of-50). TU held OSU to 25 percent from the field in the second half (8-31), and 29 percent for the game (16-55).
 
"It was a great win for us, to come on the road and get a W. I thought our guys played with great toughness," Tulsa Head Coach Frank Haith said. "We had to get back to doing the little things on the defensive end. That's what this team is. I thought our guys were outstanding in both halves on that half of the court."
 
Pat Birt hit a 3-pointer to break a 49-49 tie and give Tulsa the lead with 4:55 remaining, and the Hurricane scored eight straight to move ahead 57-49. Curtis followed a pair of Woodard free throws with a steal in half court pressure, and converted a three-point play to extend the lead to eight points.
 
Tulsa did not allow the Cowboys to get closer than five points the rest of the game. TU made 10-of-12 foul shots in the final 5:00, and extended its lead to 10 points with :36 remaining on a free throw by Curtis. D'Andre Wright, who finished with five points, made a pair of foul shots with :21 left to reach the 66-56 final.
 
Trailing 27-26 at the half, Rashad Ray knocked down a jumper on the first possession of the second period to give Tulsa a 28-27 lead. Oklahoma State re-took the lead, 31-29, on a three-point play by Anthony Allen, and led 33-31 with 15:50 remaining. Birt made a layup off of an offensive rebound, and Swannegan made a layup to give TU the 35-33 advantage. The Hurricane held the lead until OSU scored four straight to tie the game, 49-49.
 
The Hurricane got 26 points from its bench, and had eight steals, forcing 12 OSU turnovers. TU committed 11 turnovers, and the rebounds were even at 36 apiece.
 
Tulsa shot 27 percent in the first half (7-26), while OSU shot 33 percent from the field (8-24). The Cowboys led by as many as five points, 15-10, in the first period. TU then scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 20-17 lead with 4:18 left in the half. The Hurricane led, 26-25, before OSU converted two free throws to take a 27-26 lead into the break.
 
The Golden Hurricane returns home Saturday to face Oral Roberts in the annual PSO Mayor's Cup at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
