Tulsa Ranks 19th in NACDA’s Learfield Sports Director’s Cup

The University of Tulsa ranks 19th nationally in the initial NACDA Learfield Sports Director's Cup Division I Fall Standings, it was announced today. Tulsa is the top American Athletic Conference institution in the standings, followed by UConn at No. 26 and SMU at No. 51. Syracuse is ranked No. 1 in the current standings.
The current fall standings include the sports of men's cross-country, women's cross- country and women's field hockey.
Tulsa's high ranking is spearheaded by the school's men's and women's cross country teams, winners of the American Athletic Conference Championships and participants in the NCAA Championships. The Golden Hurricane men finished 20th in their seventh school appearance at the national event, while the Tulsa women placed 29th at the NCAA Championships. Marc Scott had a school-best 10th-place finish, while he and Luke Traynor, finishing in 34th place, earned All-America honors.
The women were paced by Rachel Baptista's 69th-place performance as the Hurricane women made just the school's second trip to the national championships.
The Learfield Sports Director's Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. The program began in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today. Each institution is awarded points in a pre-determined number of sports for men and women, and an overall champion, who records the highest number of points, is named when all NCAA competition is completed in the spring.
In NCAA Division I athletics, 20 sports are included in the ratings, 10 men's and 10 women's sports.
