Men's Basketball to Open American Conference Play at Home Dec. 29 vs. SMU

9/1/2015 12:50:00 PM | Men's Basketball

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa 2015-16 basketball schedule is complete with the release of the American Athletic Conference schedule today.

TU's 18-game conference slate includes nine home games, and home-and-away contests against SMU, UConn, Cincinnati, Temple, Tulane, East Carolina, UCF and Houston. TU will play a single home game against USF and a single road game at Memphis. The Golden Hurricane will not play back-to-back home games in conference play. Tulsa's lone conference road swing has the Hurricane playing at SMU and UConn with a two-day separation.

Once again, all 18 of Tulsa's conference games will be televised on an ESPN network or by CBS Sports Network. It was also announced that all six of TU's non-conference home contests will be televised on ESPN networks.

Tulsa opens conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at home against reigning league champion SMU on ESPN2 and follows with a road game at Cincinnati on Jan. 2, in what will present a sure test for TU at the outset of league action.

"We hit the ground running quickly in conference play, that's for sure," Tulsa Head Coach Frank Haith said. "Opening against SMU and Cincinnati present a tremendous opportunity for our program and really illustrates the depth of the American Athletic Conference from top to bottom. I know our team is excited about the challenge of competing in The American again this year and the quality of teams in this league will really pay dividends come postseason time."

TU will face SMU on Dec. 29, and return the trip to Dallas on Wednesday, Feb. 10. The longtime rivals battled twice last year, including a five-point margin on the final day of the regular season in Dallas, in a game that determined the league regular season champion. TU leads the all-time series against SMU, 30-16.

The Hurricane travels to Cincinnati on Saturday, Jan. 2. The teams met once last season, a 56-47 UC win in Tulsa. The Bearcats will play at the Reynolds Center on Thursday, Feb. 18.

East Carolina visits the Reynolds Center on Tuesday, Jan. 5, and the teams will play in Greenville two weeks later on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Tulsa has won four in a row against ECU, including both meetings last season, and leads the all-time series, 13-2.

TU takes a trip to New Orleans on Sunday, Jan. 10 to face Tulane, and the Green Wave will visit Tulsa on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Hurricane has won five straight against Tulane, and leads the series, 14-5.

UConn visits Tulsa on Thursday, Jan. 14, where TU defeated the Huskies last season, 66-58, in the schools' first meeting in Oklahoma. The Hurricane returns the trip to Storrs on Saturday, Feb. 13. It will be Tulsa's first visit to Gampel Pavilion, the Huskies' on-campus arena.

Tulsa plays UCF at home on Sunday, Jan. 24, and visits Orlando nearly a month later on Sunday, Feb. 21. TU won the only meeting between the schools in 2014-15, 56-54, in Orlando at the start of league play, and leads the series, 9-6.

The Golden Hurricane travels to Houston on Wednesday, Jan. 27 for the first meeting of the season with the Cougars. UH returns the trip on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the Reynolds Center. TU has won six in a row in the series, including all three meetings last year, and leads the all-time series, 26-21.

Tulsa and Temple face off for the first time in 2015-16 on Thursday, Feb. 4 in Philadelphia. The Hurricane, which defeated the Owls twice last season, will host Temple on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Reynolds Center. TU leads the all-time series, 4-0

The Hurricane will see Memphis and USF one time in the 2015-16 regular season, and both matchups sit at the end of the schedule. TU visits Memphis on Sunday, Feb. 28, and concludes the regular season at home against USF on Saturday, March 5. Tulsa defeated each school twice last year.

The 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship will be held March 10-13 at the Amway Center in Orlando.

Tulsa's non-conference home game against Wichita State on Nov. 17 will be televised locally in Tulsa and Wichita on Cox Cable, and nationally on ESPN3. Home contests against Central Arkansas, Little Rock, Oral Roberts, Iona and Northern Arizona will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Season tickets for the 17-game home schedule are on sale NOW! Tickets start as low as $210. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the TU Athletics Ticket Office in the Donald W. Reynolds Center, or by calling 918-631-GoTU (4688).
