Tulsa Falls to Tulane, 3-2, to Begin Conference Play

TULSA, Okla.— Junior Rebecca Reeve recorded 23 kills and junior Brooke Berryhill tallied 27 digs, but Tulsa lost at American Athletic Conference foe Tulane, 3-2 (30-28, 22-25, 25-22, 14-25, 11-15) Friday night at the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Golden Hurricane fell to 5-8, and Tulane improved its record to 6-6.

The initial frame the most competitive with 13 tying scores and three lead changes. The score was knotted at 20-20, 25-25, and at 28-28 before a Tulsa block and a Tulane attacking error ended the set at 30-28. The Hurricane tallied 18 kills, and hit a .138 percentage holding Tulane to a .105 hitting percentage.

In the second stanza, Tulsa took an early 14-7 lead before Tulane battled back to tie the score at 21-21. The Hurricane scored one more point before the Green Wave ended the set 25-22. Tulsa tallied 14 kills and hit a .133 percentage as Tulane had a .302 hitting percentage.

In the third frame, the Hurricane trailed early 13-9 before coming back to tie the score at 16-16. The teams fought closely late in the third set with tying scores at 19-19 and 21-21. TU went on to win the set 25-22 on a Tulane service error. Tulsa registered 12 kills and had a .200 hitting percentage holding the Green Wave to a .105 hitting percentage.

In the fourth stanza, TU trailed early with the score at 15-7, and Tulane extended its lead late to 20-10. The Hurricane went on to score four more points, but it wasn't enough as the Green Wave ended the set 25-14.

In the final frame, Tulsa trailed at the midway point 8-7, but after switching sides on the court Tulane went on to win the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.

Tulsa is back in American Athletic Conference action Sunday 1:30 p.m. as they travel to face Houston.
