TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team had two players who recorded double digit kills as the Golden Hurricane defeated Houston, 3-2 (16-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-18, 15-8) Sunday evening at the Alumni/Athletic Center. Juniors Erica Bohannon and Rebecca Reeve tallied 25 and 17 kills, respectively. TU improved its record to 6-8, and Houston fell to 11-3.

In the initial frame, Houston took an early 15-8 lead and extended it late to 22-15. The Hurricane scored one more point before the Cougars ended the set 25-16.

In the second stanza, both teams battled with the score tied at 18-18, 22-22, and 24-24. Houston score back-to-back points to win the set 26-24 giving them a 2-0 match advantage going into intermission.

In the third frame, the Hurricane captured a 15-11 lead at the midpoint and they maintained that late with the score at 23-18. Houston scored two more points before a big time block and kill from senior Ashley Hooper ended the set at 25-20 making the match score 2-1.

In the fourth stanza, TU led at the midpoint 15-12 and extended the lead late to 23-17. Back-to-back kills from freshman Emily Thorson and Reeve ended the set at 25-18. The Hurricane hit an impressive .394 percentage limiting the Cougars to a .111 hitting percentage.

In the final frame, Tulsa dominated taking a 7-3 and lengthening the lead to 14-7. A crushing kill from Bohannon completed the comeback for the Hurricane taking the set 15-8 and the match 3-2. TU hit an impressive .368 holding Houston to a .000 hitting percentage.
