Tulsa Volleyball Falls to SMU, 3-1, to Conclude Third Consecutive Road Match

Tulsa, Okla.—
The University of Tulsa volleyball team fell to SMU, 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 13-25, 19-25) Wednesday night at the Moody Coliseum. Senior middle blocker Ashley Hooper recorded 16 kills, and junior libero Brooke Berryhill led the way defensively for TU with 16 digs. The Golden Hurricane fell to 6-9 and 1-2 in American Athletic Conference play, and SMU improved to 12-3 and 2-1 in American Athletic Conference play.
 
In the initial frame, both teams battled with the score tied at 10-10, 13-13, and 15-15 before TU took a five point lead with the score at 20-15. SMU fought their way back to tie the score at 23-23, but a crushing kill from junior outside hitter Erica Bohannon and a SMU attacking error ended the set at 25-23. Hooper and Bohannon both recorded four kills for the Hurricane, while Berryhill tallied seven digs.
 
In the second stanza, Tulsa trailed early with the score at 7-4 and at 13-10. The Hurricane battled back to tie the score at 14-14, but they fell short as the Mustangs ended the set at 25-17 tying the match 1-1 going into intermission. Hooper recorded four more kills for TU, while Berryhill and junior outside hitter Trinity Alualu tallied four digs.
 
In the third frame, the Hurricane fell behind early with the score at 8-1 and at 10-2. SMU then extended its lead to 18-6 as they went on to win the set 25-13 earning a 2-1 match advantage. Hooper and Bohannon led the way offensively recording four and five kills in the frame, respectively.
 
In the final stanza, both teams battled with the score tied early at 7-7 before TU began trailing with the score at 13-10 and at 18-14. The Hurricane was behind late in the set with the score at 22-18 before the Mustangs ended the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
 
The Hurricane returns to the Donald W. Reynolds Center to take on East Carolina Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
