Tulsa Picks Up Second Win of Season, 3-2, over Charleston

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team picked up its second win of the season against the College of Charleston Cougars, 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 25-18, 26-28, 15-9), at the Bama Bash at Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Golden Hurricane was led offensively by junior outside hitter Rebecca Reeve who recorded 16 kills, and defensively was led by junior libero Brooke Berryhill who tallied 21 digs. The Hurricane improves a 2-2 overall record, and the Cougars fall to a 1-4 overall record.

The score was tied six times within the first 10 points, as the teams traded the lead on three occasions early in the opening set. After a 7-7 tie, the Cougars scored seven straight points to go up 14-7. The Hurricane pulled within five points at 20-15, before Charleston ended the frame 25-19.
In the second set Tulsa took the lead early and didn't look back. The Hurricane hit .368 in the frame, and converted 73 percent of its sideout opportunities. From a 2-2 tie, the Hurricane scored three straight points to move ahead 5-2, and then ran out to a 12-7 lead. Charleston brought the score within two points making it 20-18, before Tulsa scored five straight points to end the set 25-18.
Coming out of intermission the Hurricane stormed out to a 7-2 lead. Tulsa led the entire set and was up 21-14 before Charleston closed the gap to 22-18. Tulsa would score the next three points to close out the set.
The fourth frame was the closest of the match with 11 lead changes, and 14 ties. Tulsa jumped out to an early 9-7 lead before both teams started trading points. The score was tied seven times through the teens before Charleston ended up with 20-19 lead. The set went to extra points, as both teams were neck and neck at 24-24, 25-25, and 26-26 before the Cougars scored the final two points to end the set 28-26.
Tulsa dominated the final set hitting .421 with zero attack errors and limiting Charleston to a .048 hitting percentage and five attacking errors. The Hurricane won the final frame 15-9 to end the match.
