Tulsa Women’s Tennis Upsets No. 15-Ranked Baylor, 4-1, Saturday Afternoon

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis team upset No. 15-ranked Baylor in a 4-1 decision Saturday afternoon in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. After losing the doubles point, the No. 48-ranked Golden Hurricane won four straight singles matches to complete a comeback win over the Baylor Bears.
Tulsa improves to 6-1 overall, while Baylor falls to 3-2 overall.
In doubles play, Baylor won court three, 6-2, before going on to win court two, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point earning a 1-0 dual advantage going into singles play. Court one did not finish doubles play, and the score was tied at 5-5 before stoppage. Rongrong Leenabanchong picked up TU's first singles point defeating Kelley Anderson on court three, 6-2, 6-1. No. 95-ranked singles player Ksenia Laskutova went on to defeat Theresa Van Zyl on court two, 6-2, 6-2, to give Tulsa a 2-1 dual advantage. Yelena Nemchen defeated Rhiann Newborn on court five, 6-1, 7-5, before Marcelina Cichon defeated Blair Shankle, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the dual win, 4-1, allowing for courts one and six not to finish play.
