Tulsa’s Montgomery Fills Coaching Staff Vacancies

The University of Tulsa Head Football Coach Philip Montgomery announced today the appointments of Beau Trahan and Jordan Najvar to the Golden Hurricane coaching staff.

Trahan (Trah-HAHN) will serve as Tulsa's quarterback coach and Najvar (NYE-vuhr, like diver) as offensive quality control coach.

"Both Beau and Jordan speak my language," said Montgomery. "When they walk into the offensive staff room we can get on the board and start talking scheme and terminology, they'll pick-up in the conversation immediately. They will each be tremendous contributors to what we're doing at Tulsa and will be guys that can really relate to our student-athletes.

Trahan comes to Tulsa after eight years at Baylor University. He spent the past two seasons as the Bears' assistant athletic director in charge of high school relations and coordinator of recruiting for football. Before that, Trahan served as Baylor's director of football operations.

A four-year letterman at the University of Texas (1998-2002), Trahan began his collegiate playing career as a quarterback and then moved to safety.

Following his playing career, Trahan launched his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant on the defensive side of the ball at Texas in 2003. From UT, Trahan joined Art Briles' staff in 2004 as an offensive graduate assistant coach at the University of Houston, where he and Montgomery coached together.

"Beau is a very passionate and energetic young coach who worked with us for seven years at Baylor and was a graduate assistant coach for us at Houston," said Montgomery. "He'll do an outstanding job working with our quarterbacks and will be an outstanding asset to our overall program. Beau has great recruiting connections in the state of Texas, especially in Houston and central Texas. He'll help elevate us to another level."

From 2005-08, Trahan was an assistant coach at Dickinson (Texas) High School, where he coached the quarterbacks under his father and legendary coach Warren "Bull" Trahan".

Trahan received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the University of Texas in 2002. He and his wife, Lauren, have two daughters: Abigail and Anne.

Najvar was a three-year starting tight end at the University of Baylor (2011-13) after transferring from Stanford University. He was a three-time all-Big 12 honorable mention selection with the Bears. Najvar played his prep football at Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas, where he was ranked as the nation's 12^th-best tight end coming out of high school.

At Baylor, Navjar played in 38 games and totaled 35 receptions for 311 yards and four touchdowns. He was an undrafted free agent signee in 2014 with the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent one year. He spent part of the 2015 season with the Brooklyn Bolts of the FXFL Developmental League.

"Jordan played for me as a three-year starter at Baylor. He was one of the most intelligent football players that I've ever been associated, especially at the position he was playing. Jordan knew everybody's blocking assignments upfront and was able to make protection calls. He understands the game of football and has a passion for it," said Montgomery. "Jordan is giving up his aspirations for a playing career in the NFL, but knew he wanted to get into coaching. He'll be a great asset to us on and off the field.

Najvar earned his degree from Baylor in distribution management technology in May 2013.
