Tulsa Women’s Tennis Plays Host To Hurricane Invitational

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis team began the 2016 season Friday, Jan. 8, as they played host to the Hurricane Invitational at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The invitational is a three-day competition and is set to conclude Sunday evening, and the teams that were invited include Wyoming, Oral Roberts, and Wichita State.
In singles play, seniors Saana Saarteinen and Renata Kuricova went 1-0, while juniors Rongrong Leenabanchong, Marcelina Cichon, Yelena Nemchen, and Mahitha Dadireddy went 1-0 as well. TU's lone sophomore Ksenia Laskutova won her singles match, while freshman Martha Matoula went 1-1.
In doubles play, Leenabanchong and Matoula picked up a win over Jonas and Talbert of Wyoming, while Laskutova and Kuricova defeated Puentes and Gisberts of ORU. To round out doubles play, Cichon and Nemchen defeated Gordan and Simenova of ORU, while Saarteinen and Dadireddy picked up another Tulsa win against Koonik and Van Der Ploeg of Wyoming.
The Hurricane started the 2016 season strong winning ever doubles match, and only falling short in one singles match. Tulsa comes into the season ranked 47th nationally after finishing the 2014-15 season ranked 51st.
