Tulsa Women's Tennis Grabs Seven Victories at OU Invite

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Tulsa continued play at the OU Invite on Saturday with seven singles and five doubles matches on the day, earning a total of eight wins.
 
Rongrong Leenabanchong defeated Oklahoma's Mimi Fotopoulos in the flight one quarterfinals, rallying after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The senior would fall to Fotopoulos' teammate, Sarena Nash, 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals later in the day.
 
Martha Matoula advanced to the flight two finals set for tomorrow morning with two wins on the day, defeating OU's Simran Sethi 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals before beating teammate Martina Okalova in the semifinals 7-5, 6-2. Okalova reached the semifinals with a dominant performance over Oklahoma's Christiana Brigante 6-1, 6-0.
 
Mahitha Dadireddy won her match in the flight two loser's bracket against Macie Elliott of SMU 7-5, 6-2 after dropping her quarterfinals contest to Alba Cortina-Pou of Texas Tech 7-6 (5), 6-3. 
 
Elzbieta Iwaniuk had to retire in her match against SMU's Mary Wright due to injury in a round robin contest, but found success earlier in the day in flight one consolation doubles play with Okalova, defeating the pair of Liza Buss and Ana Perez of SMU 7-6 (6), before dropping the finals to the Texas Tech due of Katelyn Jackson and Lynn Kiro, 7-6.
 
Dadireddy and partner Vera Ploner fell in the flight two finals to Kansas State's Carolina Costamagna and Palma Juhasz, 6-4.
 
Matoula and Leenabanchong reached the finals of the flight two consolation, blanking Alexis Thoma and Ivana Babic 6-0 before defeating Texas Tech's pair of Cortina-Pou and Reagan Collins, 7-5.
 
Play at the OU Invite will wrap up tomorrow.
