Tulsa’s Collegiate 8+ Earns Gold, Collegiate 4+ Captures Silver at Jayhawk Jamboree

Tulsa's Collegiate 8+ earned a gold medal, while the Collegiate 4+ captured a silver medal on Sunday at the Jayhawk Jamboree at Burcham Park on the Kansas River in Lawrence, Kan.

"I was really happy with our racing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We've been working on our technical aspects and they've been really taking hold in terms of our power. But it just the beginning as it is all about training and making sure our training is on target during the fall season. The way we finished today is a good sign, but we have a ton of work to do."

Tulsa's Collegiate 8+ 'A' boat, which consisted of Marcia Vidaurri, Jennifer Casson, Lauren Vander Hoeven, Bayley Macdonald, Helen Leigh, Veronique Ulrich, Maria Gearing, Hannah Vissers and Colleen Giesbrecht, captured a gold medal with a time of 13:02.60. The Golden Hurricane finished ahead of Oklahoma by nearly six seconds and host Kansas by 14 seconds, which finished second and third, respectively. The TU 'B' boat was sixth and the 'C' boat was 15 in a field of 29 boats.

Tulsa's Collegiate 8+ 'A' boat went on to finish first in the Heat, Semifinal and Final in the 300-Meter Sprint.

Lindsey Smith, Jennifer Casson, Maria Gearing, Hannah Vissers and Colleen Giesbrecht raced the Collegiate 4+ to a second-place time of 14:05.72 in the Collegiate 4+. TU's 'B' boat finished eighth, while the 'C' boat was 10^th, the 'E' boat was 16^th and the 'D' boat was 17^th in a field of 34 boats.

TU will conclude the fall season at home with the Tulsa Fall Invitational on November 4-5 in Catoosa, Okla. The Golden Hurricane will host Kansas and SMU in the regatta.
