Tulsa Women’s Hoops Participate in American Athletic Conference Media Day in Philadelphia

Tulsa Head Coach Matilda Mossman and junior guard Erika Wakefield participated in the annual American Athletic Conference Basketball Media Day on Monday, October 24 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Coach Mossman and Wakefield met with ESPN, CBS and the American Digital Network, as well as local and national media, and helped with the community service project of packing backpacks for local children.
The American announced the 2016-17 Preseason Coaches' Poll at the event, where the Tulsa program was selected to finish ninth by the league's coaches. UConn, which has won four-straight NCAA Championships and all three American Athletic Conference Championships, was picked first. Temple, which was selected to finish second, had 23 wins and advanced to the quarterfinals of the WNIT, while third-place pick USF had 24 wins and played in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Tulane, SMU, East Carolina, Memphis, UCF, Tulsa, Cincinnati and Houston round out the poll.
The Golden Hurricane finished last season with a 12-19 overall record, including an 8-10 mark in The American to finish sixth.
The 2016-17 campaign begins on November 11, with conference play set to begin on January 1. The 2017 American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship is slated for March 3-6 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
