WEST CHESTER, Ohio – Senior Luke Traynor won the individual championship, leading the Tulsa men's cross country team to its third straight American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday at Voice of America Metropark. The TU women's team finished second, just two points behind SMU, 45-47.

With a time of 23:39.9, Traynor was the only runner in the race to finish under 24:00 minutes, and became the third straight Tulsa runner to win the conference individual title. The Golden Hurricane claimed its seventh consecutive conference championship, dating back to its time as a member of Conference USA.

The Tulsa men won the team championship with 22 points, placing all seven runners in the top-14, to defeat second-place Tulane, which totaled 101 points. The women's team placed all five scorers in the top-12, but finished two points shy of another championship, stopping its streak at three straight conference titles.

"The guys had a great race. They did a really good job," Tulsa Head Coach Steve Gulley said. "They executed everything just like we wanted. I'm very proud of them. The ladies had a great race too, but SMU just beat them, that's all. You put five in the top-12 and you think you have it, but SMU got it with their front three that countered us a little bit better than we thought. I don't know what else we could have done. I thought the ladies gave 110 percent, we just got beat."

All seven TU men's runners finished in the top-15, earning all-conference honors. Traynor (first), junior Ben Preisner (second – 24:04.4), senior Henry Pearce (fourth – 24:20.5), junior Adam Roderique (fifth – 24:22.6), sophomore Isaac Dobos (10th – 24:50.2), junior Dallas Elmore (11th– 25:00.8) and sophomore Austin Del Rosso (14th – 25:11.2) earned all-conference honors.

All five scorers on the women's side finished in the top 12, earning all-conference status: senior Clara Langley (seventh – 21:04.9), senior Stacie Taylor (eighth – 21:08.2), junior Nicole Lee (ninth – 21:09.0), senior Olivia Lopez (11th – 21:19.5) and freshman Adrena Mazzei (12th – 21:19.6).

The TU coaching staff, led by Steve Gulley and assistant coach Taylor Gulley, was also awarded the men's coaching staff of the year.

The Golden Hurricane returns to action Nov. 11 at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Iowa City, Iowa.
