Tulsa Earns Four First-Place Finishes in Fall Invitational

The Tulsa women's rowing team earned four first-place finishes, and four more boats finished in the top three in the first day of action at the Tulsa Fall Invitational on Friday afternoon on the Verdigris River in Catoosa, Okla.
"It was good first day of racing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "I am really pleased with the way the Fours rowed and it was nice to see the way the team took on the small boats. I enjoyed what we did and it was good to see these results. I'm excited for tomorrow to watch our Eights race and hopefully conclude our fall season on a good note."
Sam Barber, Jennifer Casson, Maria Gearing, Hannah Vissers and Colleen Giesbrecht raced the Varsity 4+ to a first-place finish in a time of 15:30.1, more than 25 seconds faster than second-place Kansas. The Tulsa 'B' boat was third in a time of 16:09.9. The Golden Hurricane raced an additional four boats in the race, will all of them finishing in the top-10 in a field of 13 boats.
Jasmine Leheta raced the Varsity 1x to a top mark in a time of 19:05.3, 12 seconds ahead of the Kansas 'A' boat in second place and 38 seconds ahead of the SMU 'B' crew.
In the Varsity 2-, Casson and Helen Leigh captured a time of 16:42.3 for first place, while Bayley Macdonald and Madeline Lyons finished in second place in a time of 17:12.0. Elisa Vandersloot and Skylar Luttjehuizen were second in the Varsity 2x with a time of 17:26.2.
Madeline Oleksiak, Amy Pitzel, Stephanie Call and Audrey Brown recorded a top time of 16:57.3 in the Varsity 4x to finish in first, while Taylah Eder, Chaselyn Ruffaner-Hanson, Emily Truss and Anna McHenry raced a time of 16:45.3 for third.
The regatta will conclude tomorrow with the Novice 4+ set to begin at 9:00 am, followed by the Varsity 8+ at 9:30 am and the Varsity 8+ Sprint Races at 10:00 am. TU will only race in the Eight.
