Tulsa’s Varsity 8+ Turns In Second-Place Mark at Fall Invitational

Tulsa's Varsity 8+ earned a second-place finish in the final day of racing at the Tulsa Fall Invitational on Saturday morning on the Verdigris River in Catoosa, Okla.

"It was tough to finish second, but Kansas did a great job and rowed aggressively," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We appreciate SMU and Kansas coming down to race this weekend. We had a good race, but not the race we wanted. We have to stay aggressive through two days of racing and we can learn from this. We had a good two days, and I like the attitude and work rate of our team, but we can't let up so now we'll work on getting faster for the spring."

In the Varsity 8+ race, Kansas turned in a top time of 14:14.1. The TU 'A' boat, which consisted of Sam Barber, Jennifer Casson, Colleen Giesbrecht, Bayley Macdonald, Helen Leigh, Hannah Vissers, Maria Gearing, Lauren Turner and Madeline Lyons, was five seconds later with a time of 14:19.4. The Golden Hurricane 'C' boat was fifth, while the 'B' boat was sixth.

The Tulsa 'A' boat went on to turn in a time of 1:34.4 for first place in the 'A' Sprint, while the 'B' boat was second in their sprint and the 'C' boat was first in the third sprint.

The Golden Hurricane will return to action on March 11-12 at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
