
Tulsa Wins Fourth Straight, Downs First-Place Cincinnati in Four

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Tulsa Volleyball team grabbed their fourth straight win as they defeated first-place Cincinnati in four sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23) Sunday afternoon. Senior Erica Bohannon racked up a season-high 24 kills in the win and the most since facing Cincinnati (16-9 overall, 11-3 The American) in the conference opener, including four down the stretch as the Hurricane (17-9 overall, 6-8 The American) rallied from down late in the fourth set to earn the win.
Rebecca Reeve and Trinity Alualu added 11 and nine kills respectively for a Tulsa squad that hit .204 on the afternoon. Brooke Berryhill anchored Tulsa with 20 digs for the 14th time this season as TU recorded 86 on the day.
Seven different Hurricane recorded a kill in the opening set as they hit .293 in the frame on their way to a 25-19 win. An Alualu kill followed by a TU block and Mariah Pardo kill stretched the Tulsa lead to three at 8-5 before Cincinnati tied things up at 12-12. Tulsa responded with another run to go ahead three once again, extending the lead to five after a Berryhill service ace at 20-15.
Tulsa eclipsed the .300 mark in the second before eventually cooling, hitting just .096 in a 25-18 set loss that knotted the match up at 1-1. Cincinnati took their first lead of the day at 5-4, eventually pushing their lead to eight at 16-8. Tulsa steadily chipped away at the Bearcats' lead, pulling within four three times late, but could not complete the comeback.
A back-and-forth third frame set the tone for the remainder of the match. Rachel Moore pushed the TU lead to five at 15-10 as the Hurricane extended their advantage to eight after an Alualu kill. The Bearcats put together a 5-0 run to pull within three before cutting the TU lead down to three at 24-22 before a Bohannon kill ended the set.
Both teams put together multiple runs to swing the momentum in the fourth set, as TU struck first with a 3-0 run to go up 9-8 on kills from Emily Thorson and Reeve. Cincinnati responded with three straight of their own to go up one before Tulsa answered with four straight, capped off by Bohannon's 20th kill of the afternoon to go up 15-13. The Bearcats took their final lead of the set at 21-19 before Tulsa used another run to take control of the frame. Bohannon started the run prior to rattling off three more kills to end the set.
The Hurricane will return home for four straight matches at the Reynolds Center, beginning with a matchup against USF on Thursday at 7 p.m. before closing out the weekend against UCF on Saturday at 1 p.m.
