THE STORYLINES . . .
• This is the fourth meeting between Tulsa and Navy.
• Tulsa has the smallest FBS enrollment with 3,473 students, while Navy has an enrollment of 4,400 students.
• This game is for first place in the American Athletic Conference West Division, as both teams come in with a 4-1 league mark . . . Tulsa lost to Houston, while Navy lost to USF.
• Both teams are bowl eligible . . . Tulsa became bowl eligible on Oct. 29 with a win at Memphis, and Navy became bowl eligible last week with a win over Notre Dame . . . last year, Tulsa did not become bowl eligible until Nov. 27.
• The run game is a key component in each team's offensive attack . . . Navy's option game averaged 299.5 yards rushing per game to lead the league, while Tulsa averages 253.3 yards from a spread offense and ranks third in The American.

REMINISCIENT OF THE PALOMINO EXPRESS. . .
• In 1982, there were two running back tandems in America that had two 1,000 yard rushers – the Pony Express at SMU and the Palomino Express at Tulsa.
• Tulsa's Palomino Express – Micheal Gunter and Ken Lacy – rushed for 1,464 and 1,097 yards, respectively.
• This year, the Tulsa running back duo of James Flanders and D'Angelo Brewer are on the doorsteps of duplicating that 1,000-1,000 rushing mark for the Hurricane.
• Flanders went over 1,000 yards last week against East Carolina and now has 1,080 yards, while Brewer is 17 yards shy of 1,000 with 983 yards.
• Currently, it has happened only 69 times in D1 (FBS) history that a team has had two 1,000 yard rushers in the same season.
ONE-TWO IN THE AMERICAN . . .
• Tulsa's dynamic 2-player punch at the running back position with junior D'Angelo Brewer and senior John Flanders are ranked one-two in the American Athletic Conference.
• Brewer has an average of 122.9 yards per game and Flanders averages 120.0 yards per game.
• Flanders has rushed for 1,080 yards, 6.6 yards per game and 14 TDs in nine games, while Brewer has 983 rushing yards, five TDs and a 5.3 average per rush in eight contests.
• The next two on The American's rushing chart are both quarterbacks – USF's Quinton Flowers (102.3 ypg) and Navy's Will Worth (99.1 ypg).
MORE ON THE RUSHING DUO . . .
• The duo of D'Angelo Brewer and James Flanders has totaled 90.5 percent of Tulsa's rushing total this year with a combined 2,063 yards.
• The pair also has 19 of Tulsa's 26 rushing TDs, while Flanders leads with 14.
• They have combined for 21 runs over 20 yards and has had eight TD runs of 20 yards or more . . . Flanders has 12 carries of 20+ gains, including six for TDs and three covering over 50 yards . . . Brewer has nine 20+ gains and two having gone for touchdowns.

• In the last three games, Flanders has rushed for 620 yards, a 206.7 average per game, and nine touchdowns.
DEFENSE IS COMING UP BIG . . .
• In the last two games, Tulsa's defense came up big against two of the top-5 offenses in the American Athletic Conference.
• Against Memphis, Tulsa forced four turnovers, and three of those takeaways amounted to 21 points for the Hurricane.
• Tulsa's defense had eight TFLs, three QB sacks, six pass breakups, five QB hurries, while adding four takeaways –– two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
• A week later against East Carolina, Tulsa did not force any turnovers, but the Hurricane had a season-best seven sacks en route to a total of nine TFLs, and also added five pass break-ups . . . the sack total was the most since garnering seven sacks vs. UTEP in 2013.
• In the last two games, Tulsa totaled 17 TFLs, 10 QB sacks, 11 pass breakups and seven QB hurries.
