The Tulsa women's basketball team signed Rebecca Lescay and Krystan Vornes to national letters-of-intent, as announced today by Head Coach Matilda Mossman.
"We are absolutely thrilled to add these two young women and their families to our Hurricane family," Mossman said. "Rebecca will greatly add to our guard position with her leadership, her work ethic and her ability to get to the basket. Krystan is a rebounding machine who has a high motor and will fill a void we have at the 4 position. Both of these student-athletes are leaders on their teams and in their schools, and we look forward to them making a huge impact on Tulsa Women's Basketball. Today is a great day for our program!"
A 5'8" guard from Plano, Texas, Lescay is a three-year letterwinner at Liberty High School. At LHS, she led her team to a 91-15 mark in three seasons, finishing as Texas State Finalists her junior year. As a junior, Lescay averaged 13.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.4 blocks per game, while earning TGCA all-state honors, and being named as the District 9-5A Defensive Player of the Year and as a 5A Texas State Championship all-tournament team selection. Lescay was also named to the TABC all-region and all-state teams as a sophomore and junior, picked up DFW all-area third-team accolades, and was named the District 9-5A MVP as a sophomore. During her freshman campaign, she was a District 9-5A honorable mention selection.
"Rebecca's best attribute is that she has the best motor on the court, meaning she can play an entire game at a very high pace and has a phenomenal work rate," Liberty High School Coach Ross Reedy said. "She can guard anyone on the court, while finding the most unorthodox ways of scoring by slicing her way through the defense. Rebecca has great body and ball control, and can get shots off that no one else can. She is an incredible athlete, is also extremely bright in the classroom and has an incredibly large heart. Rebecca is a great player and an even better person."
Vornes, a 6'2" forward from Osceola, Ark., is a three-year letterwinner at East Poinsett County High School. As a junior, Vornes averaged 18.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per game, and was named to the Arkansas 2A all-state and all-conference teams. During her sophomore season, she posted 20.8 points and 16.0 rebounds per game, and picked up 3A all-state and all-conference accolades. Vornes is a two-time Best Under the Sun first-team honoree and an all-NEA tournament team selection.
"One of the biggest and most notable attributes about Krystan is that she is a natural leader and with today's players that is rare," East Poinsett County High School Coach Justin Williams said. "The way she speaks to everyone and gets the team on the same page even just in practice is great. Her willingness to speak up and be a leader comes from how much work she has put in. On the court, she is still developing her three-point shot and I think that is going to continue to grow. She is athletic and strong, and has worked hard to get to this point."
