Tulsa Men and Women Open Indoor Season at Crimson and Gold Invitational

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The University of Tulsa Men's and Women's Track and Field teams opened up the 2016-17 indoor campaign on Saturday at the Crimson and Gold Invitational.
 
The women recorded five top-three finishes on the day, including two in the 300-meter dash and the 600-yard run. In the 300-meter, freshman Aaliyah Birmingham ran second with a time of 39.49 while Candalyn Lyons took third with a run of 39.93. Kiara Jones and Cydney Fogle put together solid runs in the event, placing fourth and seventh respectively while all four Hurricane in the event improved on their seeding times.
 
Emma Galbraith and Allison Bailey swept the top-two in the 600-yard run, as Galbraith took first with a run of 1:24.88 while Bailey ran second with a time of 1:25.41.
 
Sabrina Monsees ran 2:12.63 in the 800-meter run, finishing third in the event. Breonna Hall placed seventh with a time of 58.48 in the 400-meter dash while Tulsa's lone finish in a field event came by way of an 11th-place finish by Baylor Reese with a toss of 13.93m in the weight throw.
 
The men's team took two event titles on the day while adding two more top-two finishes. Grey Howard put together the fastest recorded time in TU history in the 600-yard run with a run of 1:12.10, taking first place while teammates Luke Moran and David Anderson took seventh and 10th respectively.
 
Aleks Rapp added an event title for the Hurricane in the weight throw with a indoor program-record toss of 64-07.75, breaking the record set by Alex Lybarger last season before taking sixth in the shot put. In other field events, Hutch Helbig placed 10th with a jump of 6-04.25 in the high jump.
 
Bailey Stewart put together a run of 1:53.32 in the 800-meter run, taking second place in the event while August Bont finished 14th.
 
Otugo Ananaba and Hans Kunsch put together solid performances in the lone sprint for the TU men on the day as Ananaba ran third with a run of 35.62 while Kunsch finished fifth with a time of 36.10.
 
The men and women will return to the track after winter break, beginning with the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 14.
