The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 62-45 decision to SMU on Wednesday night at Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas.  TU fell to 10-16 on the season and 7-8 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Mustangs moved to 12-13 overall and 7-7 in the league.

"SMU just played better than we did in the first half," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "They played harder than we did, they rebounded better and they shot better.  In every single position they outplayed us in the first half.  In the second half we outscored them, but it was hard to come back from the first half.  We weren't very disciplined in the first half."

Ashley Clark had a team-best 11 points, while Tatyana Perez added seven points, Tyjae' Scale had six points, and Erika Wakefield, Ashley Hughes and Jordyn Holmes all added five points.  Scales and Clark both had six rebounds, and Clark tallied four steals.

SMU had a 45-32 lead in rebounds, a 16-13 advantage in assists and a 12-3 lead in blocks, while Tulsa had a 10-4 lead in steals.  The Mustangs scored 30 points in the paint, 23 points off turnovers and 14 points off the bench, compared to the Hurricane's 12 points in the paint, 10 points off turnovers and 18 bench points.

The Mustangs were led by McKenzie Adams with 19 points, while Stephanie Collins had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.  Gabrielle Wilkins had a team-best 12 rebounds and three steals.

Tulsa outscored SMU in the third frame, 14-10, while both teams shot 46-percent from the field, a 30-percent improvement for the Hurricane from the first half.  TU's 14 points was also more than the first two quarters combined.

The Hurricane also had a 19-16 lead in scoring in the final frame, but couldn't overcome the first half deficit.

Tulsa shot 32-percent from the field, including just 18-percent from behind the arc, and 60-percent from the free throw line, while SMU shot 37-percent from the field, 33-percent from three-point range and 71-percent from the charity stripe in the game.

SMU took an early 11-4 lead with 5:12 on the clock in the first quarter as the Mustangs were shooting 80-percent compared to TU's respectable 40-percent.  In the first five minutes both teams had five turnovers, while Tulsa had four steals and SMU had none.

SMU climbed to a 16-point advantage with 55-seconds left to play in the first frame, but a jumper by Te'era Williams with 18-seconds on the clock snapped a 6:26 scoring drought by the Hurricane.  At the end of the first period, Tulsa trailed SMU, 20-6.

In the first five minutes of the second frame, the Mustangs outscored the Hurricane, 9-2, and climbed to a 26-point lead, 36-10, at the 1:36 mark.  Tatyana Perez scored Tulsa's only field goal of the second period with 1:11 on the clock, as their other four points came off free throws, as SMU took a 36-12 lead into the break.

Tulsa shot just 16-percent from the field compared to SMU's 46-percent in the first half of the contest.  TU's 12 points ties the fewest points scored in one half by TU, which has occurred four times, most recently against SMU on February 13, 2011.

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, February 20 against Tulane.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm in New Orleans, La.
