Saana Saarteinen Named American Athletic Conference Female Tennis Player of the Week

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa women's tennis senior Saana Saarteinen was named the American Athletic Conference female tennis player of the week, as announced by the league office Tuesday. Last weekend, Saarteinen went 1-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles play.
 
Saarteinen partnered with Mahitha Dadireddy to defeat UCF's Cortney Cesarini and Monica Matias, 6-4, at the No. 3 doubles position. Saarteinen won her singles match against Sofia Baptista, 6-2, 6-1, to extend the Hurricane match lead to 2-0.
 
This is Saarteinen's first weekly conference accolade in her career, and it's the first weekly conference accolade that the Tulsa women's tennis has won since joining the American Athletic Conference. Saarteinen has compiled an overall 81-39 career record in singles play, and a 67-36 career mark in doubles play. This season, Saarteinen has posted a 16-6 record in singles play and a 11-7 mark in doubles play.
 
The Hurricane returns to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 26, to take on North Texas at 5:00 p.m., before playing its second American Athletic Conference match of the season against USF on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10:00 a.m.
