Tulsa’s No. 14-Ranked Women’s Tennis Defeats No. 68-Ranked North Texas, 4-1, Friday

Tulsa, Okla. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated North Texas, 4-1, Friday night in the first outdoor match of the season at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The No. 14-ranked Golden Hurricane won two out the three doubles matches to earn doubles point, before going on to win three singles matches to clinch a TU win.

The Hurricane extends its win streak to six matches improving to an overall 11-1 record, while North Texas falls to 5-5 overall.

Doubles play favored North Texas early as Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze (No. 1) defeated Renata Kuricova and Ksenia Laskutova in a 6-1 decision. Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula (No. 2) went on to defeat Minying Liang and Anastasiya Shestakova in a 7-5 decision, before Saana Saarteinen and Mahitha Dadireddy (No. 3) defeated Alexis Thoma and Agustina Valenzuela in a 6-3 decision to win the doubles point. Tulsa took a 1-0 match advantage going into singles play.

Singles play was controlled by Tulsa, as Saana Saarteinen (No. 1) defeated Maria Kononova, 6-0, 6-3, before Yelena Nemchen (No.5) defeated Kamilla Galieva, 6-0, 6-3, to take a 3-0 Tulsa lead. North Texas picked up a match point as Agustina Valenzuela (No. 6) defeated Mahitha Dadireddy, 6-2, 6-1, before Marcelina Cichon (No. 4) defeated Alexis Thoma, 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the Tulsa victory.
