Tulsa Football Gets Break After Seven Practices; Spring Game Time Set

The Tulsa football team has gone through its first seven practices of the spring season before taking next week off for Spring Break. The Golden Hurricane team began practices on March 1, and on Thursday had its final practice before breaking for a week.

Tulsa will be back on the football field on Tuesday, March 22, for eight more practice sessions. The game time for the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 2, has been set for 11:00 a.m. at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Tulsa Head Coach Montgomery has been pleased with what the Hurricane has accomplished through the first seven practice sessions.

"I think our young guys have gotten so many reps and are beginning to key-in and understand what they're doing within the scheme, knowing their assignments and being able to make plays, especially in our back seven on defense. Those young guys have really stepped up and done a good job," said Montgomery.

"At our receiver position, we're pretty limited due to some injuries, so a bunch of young guys are getting reps, and starting to make plays, run routes and getting open. I like the progress that we've made, and for the most part our energy has been good," Montgomery added.

"We're on the pace that we wanted to be on. We've been able to install at a pace that we've wanted to," said Montgomery. "We'll do more scrimmaging when we get back from spring break, but right know it's been all about getting reps and getting guys lined up. We've gotten a lot out of our practices thus far.

When Tulsa returns to the practice field on March 22, Montgomery wants the Hurricane to have the same type of energy.

"I want to have the same type of energy that we've had thus far and expand on what we've been doing, not taking a step back. I just want to make sure they get back here safe from spring break. I always worry about them when they're gone and I don't have a chance to see them every day," said Montgomery.
