Tulsa Softball Plays Host to No. 17 Minnesota Tuesday

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team plays host to 17th-ranked Minnesota at 5 p,m. Wednesday at the Collins Family Softball Complex. Admission for this game will be free.
The Golden Hurricane (16-5) played two games in a rain-shortened weekend at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic last weekend. TU fell to No. 8 Florida State, 8-0, and defeated Stanford, 11-0. The Golden Gophers (16-7)
This will be the fourth meeting between Tulsa and Minnesota. Minnesota leads the series, 2-1. The Golden Hurricane won the last meeting, 1-0, in 2005. The Gophers won the first meeting, 9-1, in 1996, an also won, 7-0, in 2003.

The Hurricane is led by junior third baseman Maggie Withee, who is hitting .364 with 19 runs, three doubles, 12 walks and a .409 on-base percentage. Freshman second baseman Morgan Neal bats .362 with 10 RBI and 12 runs scored, and sophomore shortstop Shelby Estocado hits .328 with five home runs, 15 RBI and 18 runs. Junior outfielder Maddie Withee leads the team with 23 RBI and has eight extra base hits with a .349 average, and senior first baseman Jocelyn Sheffield has put up 20 RBI, four home runs, four doubles, and hits .304. Senior center fielder Jodi Edmiston and freshman designated player Julia Hollingsworth hit .313 and .333, respectively, as TU has seven players in its lineup hitting .300 or better.
Senior Caitlin Sill leads Tulsa in the circle with a 0.90 ERA and an 8-1 record. She has allowed a .188 opponent batting average, eight earned runs and 42 hits in 62.0 innings. Sophomore Emily Watson is 5-4 with a 1.52 ERA, has 68 strikeouts and has allowed 10 earned runs on 33 hits and a .192 opponent batting average in 46.0 innings.
Tulsa is hitting .297 with 122 runs, 104 RBI, 45 extra base hits, a .432 slugging percentage and a .379 on-base percentage. The Hurricane pitchers have posted a combined 1.78 ERA with 113 strikeouts in 138.0 innings, and allowed a .217 opponent batting average, 114 hits and 35 earned runs.
