Softball Travels to Wichita State Wednesday

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team hits the road Wednesday to take on Wichita State in midweek non-conference action at 6 p.m. at C. Howard Wilkins Stadium.
The Golden Hurricane (23-6, 2-1 American) has won 12 of its last 14 games, including two of three on the road at Houston last weekend. The Shockers (16-12, 4-2 Missouri Valley) have won three in a row and seven of their last 10 games. TU is receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 polls. This will be the 42nd meeting between Tulsa and Wichita State. Tulsa leads the series, 21-20. The teams split two games last season, with the Hurricane winning 9-6 in Tulsa and the Shockers winning 7-2 in Wichita. TU has won four of the last five contests in the series, also winning 9-3 in 2014, and 4-1 and 5-0 in 2011.
Junior left fielder Maddie Withee leads Tulsa with 34 RBI, and hits .318 with six doubles and four home runs. Freshman designated player Julia Hollingsworth leads TU with a .393 batting average, and has tallied 16 RBI and 15 runs. Junior third baseman Maggie Withee hits .372 with 30 runs, seven doubles, 15 walks and a .459 on-base percentage. Freshman second baseman Morgan Neal hits .329 with 12 RBI and 19 runs. Sophomore shortstop Shelby Estocado hits .326 with six home runs, four doubles, 19 RBI and 28 runs, and leads TU with a .581 slugging percentage. Senior first baseman Jocelyn Sheffield has put up 23 RBI, four home runs and four doubles, and hits .290.
Senior Caitlin Sill leads Tulsa in the circle with a 1.15 ERA and a 13-1 record. She has allowed a .208 opponent batting average, 15 earned runs and 71 hits in 91.0 innings. Sophomore Emily Watson is 7-5 with a 1.67 ERA, has 97 strikeouts and has allowed 16 earned runs on 49 hits and a .197 opponent batting average in 67.0 innings.
Tulsa is hitting .300 with 181 runs, 159 RBI, 38 doubles, 16 home runs, seven triples, a .429 slugging percentage and a .386 on-base percentage. The Hurricane pitchers have posted a combined 1.81 ERA with 165 strikeouts in 189.0 innings, and allowed a .222 opponent batting average, 161 hits and 49 earned runs.
