Softball Plays Host to East Carolina This Weekend

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa softball team returns home to the Collins Family Softball Complex to play host to East Carolina in a three-game American Athletic Conference series Friday through Sunday. TU and ECU play at 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.
 
The Golden Hurricane (23-7, 2-1 American) is playing its first league series at home this season. TU has won eight of its last 10 games, while the Pirates (18-18, 0-3 American) have dropped seven of eight. Live stats and live video for all three games will be available at TulsaHurricane.com.
 
TU will host a Major League Baseball Pitch Hit & Run Competition following the game on Sunday. Girls aged 7-14 are invited to participate in the free competition, testing skills in pitching accuracy, hitting for accuracy and distance, and speed running from second base to home plate. General admission for TU softball games is $5. On Sunday, youth 8th grade and below wearing a jersey will be admitted free.
 
Tulsa and East Carolina have played 29 times. Tulsa leads the series, 18-11. The Hurricane swept the series last season in Greenville, winning 5-0, 4-1 and 8-0. TU has won 10 of the last 12 meetings, and holds a 10-3 advantage against ECU in Tulsa.
 
Junior left fielder Maddie Withee leads Tulsa with 34 RBI, and hits .308 with six doubles and four home runs. Freshman designated player Julia Hollingsworth leads TU with a .386 batting average, and has tallied 17 RBI and 15 runs. Junior third baseman Maggie Withee hits .365 with 30 runs, seven doubles, 16 walks and a .455 on-base percentage. Freshman second baseman Morgan Neal hits .329 with 12 RBI and 20 runs. Sophomore shortstop Shelby Estocado hits .330 with six home runs, five doubles, 19 RBI and 28 runs, and leads TU with a .591 slugging percentage. Senior first baseman Jocelyn Sheffield has put up 23 RBI, four home runs and four doubles, and hits .290.
 
Senior Caitlin Sill leads Tulsa in the circle with a 1.15 ERA and a 13-1 record. She has allowed a .208 opponent batting average, 15 earned runs and 71 hits in 91.0 innings. Sophomore Emily Watson is 7-6 with a 2.37 ERA, has 102 strikeouts and has allowed 24 earned runs on 57 hits and a .211 opponent batting average in 71.0 innings.
 
Tulsa is hitting .302 with 184 runs, 162 RBI, 41 doubles, 17 home runs, seven triples, a .435 slugging percentage and a .387 on-base percentage. The Hurricane pitchers have posted a combined 2.10 ERA with 170 strikeouts in 193.0 innings, and allowed a .228 opponent batting average, 170 hits and 58 earned runs.
