Tulsa Softball Downs East Carolina, 12-3, Friday Afternoon

TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Shelby Estocado registered two home runs to lead The University of Tulsa softball team to a victory over American Athletic Conference foe East Carolina, 12-3, Friday afternoon at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
The Golden Hurricane improves to 24-7 overall, while East Carolina falls to 18-19 overall.
Senior pitcher Caitlin Sill picked up her 14th win on the mound for the Golden Hurricane. The talented pitcher threw 84 pitches, faced 26 batters and recorded six strikeouts. Sill pitched all five innings for the Hurricane.
Tulsa exploded offensively in the bottom of the first inning recording four runs on four hits and zero errors. To start the momentum, Estocado drilled a three-run homer to center field to take a 3-0 lead. Senior Jodi Edmiston went on to single to right field allowing freshman Julia Hollingsworth to score extending the Tulsa lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the second inning TU registered one run on one hit as Morgan Neal homered to right field to extend the Tulsa lead to 5-0.
Through the first two innings Sill gave up zero runs on three hits, but in the top of the third inning East Carolina picked up two runs on three hits.
TU bounced back in the bottom of the third inning to pick up four runs on four hits. Edmiston smacked a huge triple to center field that scored two runs, before senior Kaitlin Allen singled to left field allowing for Edmiston to score. Junior Maggie Withee reached first on an infield error, which allowed for the Allen to score extending the Tulsa lead to 9-2.
In the top of the fourth inning, ECU picked up one run on two hits and zero errors. Ciara Ervin led off the inning with a home run to center field to reduce the TU lead to 9-3.
The Hurricane found another offensive burst in the bottom of the fourth inning picking up three runs on three hits and one error. Estocado recorded her second home run of the day to lead off the inning extending the Tulsa lead to 10-3. She leads the team with eight home runs this season. Edmiston picked up a single, which allowed for Hollingsworth to score extending the Tulsa lead to 11-3. Edmiston recorded a total of four RBI's on the day. Senior Jocelyn Sheffield picked up TU's last registered hit with a single, which was enough to score Edmiston to put the TU lead at 12-3.
Sill and the Hurricane defense were solid in the top of the fifth inning giving up zero runs on one hit and zero errors to clinch the 12-3 Tulsa victory.
The Hurricane will take on American Athletic Conference foe East Carolina on Saturday, April 2, for the second game of a three game series at the Collins Family Softball Complex. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
