No. 29 Tulsa Women’s Tennis Defeats Houston, 5-2, Saturday

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated American Athletic Conference foe Houston, 5-2, Saturday at the Houston Country Club. The No. 29 Golden Hurricane (18-3 overall) won two of the three doubles matches, before going on to win four out of six singles matches to clinch the match victory.
Tulsa took an immediate 1-0 doubles point lead as Saana Saarteinen and Mahitha Dadireddy (No. 3) earned an automatic victory due to a walkover. Ksenia Laskutova teamed up with Renata Kuricova (No. 1) to defeat Despoina Vogasari and Rocio Martin, 6-4, clinching the doubles point to earn a 1-0 match lead going into singles play. Tina Rupert and Mina Makovic (No. 2) of Houston went on to defeat Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula in a 6-3 decision.
To begin singles play, The Hurricane took an instant 2-0 match lead as Martha Matoula (No. 6) earned an automatic victory due to a walkover. Renata Kuricova (No. 5) defeated Maria Cardenas, 6-3, 6-1, to extend the Tulsa match lead to 3-0. With tonight's win, Kuricova lengthens her singles winning streak to 10 matches. Rongrong Leenabanchong (No. 3) defeated Rocio Martin, 6-4, 6-1, to clinch the Tulsa match victory. Houston picked up their first singles victory as Mina Markovic (No. 2) defeated Ksenia Laskutova, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5, to bring the match score to 4-1. Saana Saarteinen (No. 1) went on to defeat Despoina Vogasai, 3-6, 7-5, 10-5, to register TU's final match point. Tina Rupert (No. 4) of Houston defeated Marcelina Cichon, 6-3, 1-6, 10-5, to match the final match score 5-2.
The Hurricane will remain in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, April 10, to take on 54th ranked Rice at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
