Three Tulsa Players Get NFL Free Agent Invites

The NCAA's 2015 leader for receiving yards, Tulsa's Keyarris Garrett, has agreed to join the defending NFC Champion Carolina Panthers as a free agent. Defensive end Derrick Alexander has a free agent tryout with the Washington Redskins, and on Sunday tight end/H-back Mandel Dixon was invited to the Dallas Cowboys mini-camp.

As a senior, Garrett caught 96 passes for 1,588 yards, a 16.5 average and eight touchdowns in 2015. He finished the season ranked first nationally for receiving yards (1,588) and receiving yards per game (122.2 ypg) and eighth for receptions per game (7.4 rpg). Garrett had seven 100+ receiving games as a senior, including two games with over 200 yards. He had a career-best 268 yards and three TDs on 14 receptions against #17 Memphis, and totaled 216 yards and one TD on 10 catches in Tulsa's 45-34 win over Tulane. Garrett also had 189 yards receiving and one touchdown on 14 receptions against #16 Oklahoma

The 6'4" Garrett, from Daingerfield High School in Daingerfield, Texas, was a unanimous first-team American Athletic Conference selection his senior season. He was also named to Phil Steele's College Football post-season All-America fourth team and was selected to the SI.com honorable mention All-America team.

Alexander played in 51 career games started 36 contests for the Hurricane. He totaled 39 tackles, 8.5 stops for lost yards, 3.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries his senior season, while tallying career totals of 132 tackles, 35 TFLs and 20.5 sacks.

Dixon played two seasons at Tulsa after transferring from Pittsburg State, where he started at fullback in 2011 and 2012. Dixon red-shirted in 2013 and started 14 games in the last two seasons for the Hurricane. He had a career total of 10 receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown.
