
Tulsa Men in Third Place After Second Day of 2016 American Outdoor Track & Field Championships; Women in Seventh Place

ORLANDO, Fla. – On Friday night, The University of Tulsa men's and women's track and field teams are in third and seventh place, respectively, through the second day of competition in the 2016 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships are held at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex in Orlando, Fla., and are set to run through Sunday, May 15.
The women's team picked up two top-five finishes on the day, while the men's team registered one top-five finish.
Freshman Cecilya Johnson led the way for the women's team finishing runner-up in the women's discus throw with a distance of 53.41m (175-03). Her mark broke the previous American Athletic Conference record, which was set in 2014. Sophomore Kiara Jones qualified for the finals of the women's 400-meter hurdles with a second place finish in Section 2 with a time of 1:01.03. Her time was the fourth best overall.
For the men, freshman Robert Tully qualified for the finals of the men's 800-meter run finishing runner-up in Section 2 with a time of 1:50.85. His time was the fourth best overall. His teammate freshman Braydon Rennie recorded a 10th place finish in the same event with a time of 1:52.00.
