
Saana Saarteinen Set to Participate in First Round of NCAA Division I Women’s Singles Championship

TULSA, Okla. – Today the NCAA announced that The University of Tulsa women's tennis senior Saana Saarteinen will make her first appearance in the 2016 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championships. Saarteinen, nationally ranked 86th in singles play, will take on Arkansas's 21st-ranked singles player Yuliya Lysa on Wednesday, May 25, at 11:00 a.m. on her home court at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Team Championships, Saarteinen and Lysa faced each other in a match that did not finish play. The Golden Hurricane went on to win the match in a 4-1 decision.
Saarteinen has compiled an 88-43 career record in singles play, which ranks eighth on Tulsa's career singles leaders list. Her 86th-ranking in singles play is the highest ranking by a Tulsa women's player this season.
The talented senior helped lead TU to its second consecutive American Athletic Conference Championship, and she was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer. Saarteinen was also named the 2016 American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, and she was one of two players to be unanimously selected to the All-Conference Team of 17 players.
If Saarteinen advances she will take on the winner between Georgia's Caroline Brinson and California's Maegan Manasse on Thursday, May 26.
