Tulsa Track & Field Had Six Athletes Compete in the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. –– The University of Tulsa track and field team had six athletes that competed in the preliminary round of the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which took place at the Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan. Junior Luke Traynor recorded a fifth place finish in the men's 10,000-meter, which advances him to the next round in Eugene Ore.
 
Traynor's teammate, senior Tim Rackers, clocked a 35th place time of 30:48.02 in the same event. Sophomore Ben Preisner registered an 18th place time of 9:00.81 in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, and freshman Robert Tully finished 32nd in the men's 800-meter run with a 1:51.39 mark.
 
For the women, sophomore Kiara Jones clocked a 37th place time of 1:00.44 in the women's 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Cecilya Johnson is currently is fifth place in the women's discus throw with a distance 50.77m (166-77), and due to inclement weather the third flight of the women's discus throw is postponed until tomorrow. If Johnson is still in the top-12 after the third flight finishes tomorrow she will advance to finals in Eugene, Ore., as well. The start time is still to be determined.
 
Junior Marc Scott is set to participate in the men's 5,000-meter run on Saturday, May 28, which is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
