Tulsa’s DJ Welte Named The American’s Video Coordinator of the Year

The Collegiate Sports Video Association named DJ Welte, director of football video services for The University of Tulsa, as the recipient of the 2015-16 American Athletic Conference Video Coordinator of the Year award, it was announced today.

Welte was selected by a majority vote of his peers in The American to receive the Conference Coordinator of the Year honor. He is now a finalist for the prestigious Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year award, which will be announced at the annual CSVA banquet on May 12, 2016 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Bob Matey Award is presented to the Video Coordinator who displays innovation, determination, perseverance, and technical skill as portrayed by the late Bob Matey, legendary Video Coordinator from Texas A&M.

Welte is in his sixth year with the Golden Hurricane. He came to Tulsa from Ball State where he served as Video and Technology Coordinator for the football program for four seasons. Prior to that he worked at Louisiana Tech and Arkansas State.

At Tulsa, Welte oversees all video needs for the football program. He and his student staff shoot and edit all practices and games and make them available for coaches and student athletes to review on their XOS Thunder HD editing system. He also coordinates all video exchanges for the Golden Hurricane's future opponents and produces weekly motivational highlight videos for team meetings.

In 2011, Welte oversaw a complete renovation of the Tulsa Football Video Department as the football office transitioned from a standard definition workflow to high definition, while also adding XOS ThunderCloud, which made video available to coaches and players on mobile devices.

Welte serves as the conference representative of the American Athletic Conference video coordinators, Chair of the Savvy Awards Committee and was previously selected as the Mid-American Conference Video Coordinator of the Year in 2008-09 while at Ball State.
