Saarteinen Named ITA Most Improved Player of the Year

TULSA, Okla. – On Monday, senior women's tennis player Saana Saarteinen earned the ITA Most Improved Player award, as part of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2015-16 regional awards. The national award winners for Division I will be announced on Tuesday, May 24.
 
Saarteinen helped lead the Tulsa women's team to an impressive 21-4 record. Currently, she is ranked 86th nationally in singles play, the highest singles ranking by a Tulsa women's player this season. Last week, she earned a unanimous selection to be on the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. She has posted an impressive 23-9 singles record this year, and she played a vital role in helping lead the Golden Hurricane to its second-consecutive American Athletic Conference Championship. Saarteinen was also named the conference tournament's Most Outstanding Performer.
 
The 28th-ranked Tulsa women's tennis team is set to travel to Stillwater, Okla., for the first round of the NCAA Tennis Championships, where they will take on the 33rd-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday, May 13, at the Greenwood Tennis Center on the campus of Oklahoma State University.
