The first of three "Tulsa Plays!" Summer Kids programs, presented by The University of Tulsa athletics, KTUL Channel 8, Scripps Radio and the Tulsa World, took place on Thursday, 10-12 noon, at Veterans Park, near downtown Tulsa.
Kids, ranging from 3 to 12 years old, received instruction from TU student-athletes and participated in activities from various sports, including hitting the softball, learning proper soccer techniques, dribbling the basketball and catching the football. Kids also dressed like a TU football player with a helmet and shoulder pads and received TU face tattoos from the Golden Hurricane spirit team.
Each participant, who completed his/her activity card, received a Tulsa Plays! gift pack at the end of the two-hour session.
The two remaining dates of "Tulsa Plays!" are Thursday, July 7, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Gardens at LaFortune Park (5202 S. Hudson Ave., take entrance on 51st between Sheridan & Yale); and Thursday, July 21, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Hunter Park (5804 East 91st Street). Tulsa Plays! is open to all kids 12 & under. All children will need to have a waiver signed by a legal guardian or parent to participate.
The "Tulsa Plays!" initiative is a community program designed to encourage kids to play and live a healthy and active lifestyle.
