The University of Tulsa's Dane Evans is among 30 of the nation's top college quarterbacks named to the preseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, it was announced today.

The senior quarterback enters the 2016 season needing 31 passing TDs, 2,604 passing yards and 3,169 total yards to tie the school records in each of those categories. Evans has completed 56-percent of his passes for 8,332 career yards and 52 TDs to rank fourth on both the school's all-time lists for passing yards and TD passes.

Evans, from Sanger, Texas, has been Tulsa's starting quarterback in the last 29 games, dating back to the final four games of the 2013 campaign. Evans has four career 400+ passing games, which ties Billy Guy Anderson (1963-65) for the most in school history. He had three 400+ passing games a year ago, including 427 yards at No. 16-ranked Oklahoma, 424 against FAU and 421 against #17 Memphis.

In 2015, Evans completed 62.9-percent of his passes for 4,332 yards and 25 TDs for the school's second-best passing season, and became only the second quarterback in school history to surpass 3,000 passing yards in two separate seasons. He ranked first in the American Athletic Conference for passing yards per game (333.2) and total offense (332.5), and third for passing efficiency (151.6).

Evans ranked among the NCAA leaders in 2015 for passing yards per game (7th), passing yards (8th), passing yards per completion (11th), total offense (11th), pass efficiency (20th), passing TDs (26th) and points responsible for (33rd).

Evans is one of four American Athletic Conference quarterbacks named to the Davey O'Brien watch list. The others include Quinton Flowers (USF), P.J. Walker (Temple) and Greg Ward Jr. (Houston).

The reigning Davey O'Brien Award winner, Deshaun Watson of Clemson, headlines the list. The junior is bidding to become the award's first two-time winner since Oklahoma's Jason White (2003-04). In addition, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, one of three finalists a year ago, returns for his junior season.

The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The Davey O'Brien Award honors candidates who exemplify Davey O'Brien's enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics. The award is overseen by the Davey O'Brien Foundation, which is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and has given away nearly $1 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
