The University of Tulsa rowing team added three signees, including Sophia Camara, Sarah Hagkull and Bayley Macdonald, to the 2016-17 roster, as announced today by head coach
Kevin Harris. The Golden Hurricane now has 16 incoming student-athletes.

Camara comes to Tulsa from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, as a sophomore transfer. She is a competitor for Clube de Regatas do Flamenco, which rows on the same body of water on which the 2016 Olympic Regatta will be held, and is coached by Alexandre Clarke and Leonardo Cortes. Besides having won many medals and titles in regional regattas around Brazil and in South America, Camara will come to Tulsa as a two-time member of the Brazilian National Team. In 2014, she competed in Beijing representing Brazil in the Youth Olympics. A year later, Camara finished 11th in the Lightweight 2x at the U23 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and also finished fifth at the 2015 Pan American Games in St. Catharines, Ontario. She is currently competing to earn a spot in the Brazilian Lightweight 2x for the 2016 U23 World Championships in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
"It's hard not to be excited about Sophia," Harris said. "She is competitive, experienced and fast. I am looking forward to having her here as she is going to add to our team in a big way as an experienced boat mover who has competed at the highest levels."

Hagkull is a rower from Victoria, British Columbia, where she competed for and recently graduated from St Michael's University School. Hagkull was coached by Suzanne Walker-Curry at SMUS and competed in regional regattas such as the Brentwood Invitational and the Shawnigan Lake Regatta. Most recently Sarah led her crew to a fourth-place finish in the senior quadruple sculls at the Canadian Secondary Scholastic Rowing Association Championships.
"Sarah's main characteristics are strength, courage, and tenacity," Harris said. "She is a very tough young woman who has really worked hard for the opportunity at Tulsa. Her perseverance and competitive spirit are going to bring a lot to our team, and I am glad that she chose Tulsa for her collegiate rowing career."

Macdonald comes to Tulsa after having attended and competed with St. Peters School in Cambridge, New Zealand. Macdonald is coached by Janey Wackrow and has had a very successful juniors career. She earned a silver medal in the U18 quadruple sculls at the prestigious Maadi Cup during her sophomore year, and followed up that performance with a third-place mark during her junior year. Most recently Macdonald helped St. Peters earn wins at the North Island School Championships in the U18 quadruple sculls and a second-place finish at the National Club Championships in the Women's 8+. Her crews also made the finals at the Maadi Cup finishing fourth in the U18 4+ and 8+.
"Our staff have been fans of Bayley Macdonald since our first Skype," Harris said. "She has worked hard to become a top scholastic level rower in New Zealand. You could tell very quickly that Bayley is the type of student-athlete who will come to Tulsa, apply herself to all that we are teaching and really run with it. It will be good to have her here helping our team."
