Tulsa Ends Tuesday's Practice with Annual FCA Watermelon Feed

The Tulsa football team practice for 120 minutes Tuesday morning on the grass of Harwell Field.

"I thought it was a very competitive practice, which is what I really wanted us to do. I thought yesterday was not at the level we wanted to be. I thought we worked hard but the competitive side of it I didn't like," said Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery. "I thought today was extremely competitive on both sides with both of them making plays. Those are the kind of practices we need to have to do the things we want to do this year."

A tradition that began long ago occurred when the Fellowship of Christian Athletes had watermelons and popsicles awaiting the team following practice at what has become the annual FCA Watermelon Feed.

"We have a great relationship with our FCA here. They come and do all of our chapels. We have an open FCA chapel during the week that our guys volunteer to go to," said Montgomery. "We have a great relationship with the men who are running that organization for us. For them to take the time and come out and be around our guys and keep building that relationship and that bond I think is special. A bunch of those guys who are with the FCA, they played here. I know this place holds a special spot in their heart. Obviously, Chris (Kaiser) is not here today, but Chris is a big reason why the FCA has really grown in this area. Our thoughts and prayers are with him."
